Family filled weekend

Last weekend with my mom was so fun! But of course it had to come to an end all too soon. Monday morning I took her back to the itty bitty airport and she was on her way. But to think that the next I see her will be when I'm having a baby! I guess I can hold off a few more weeks.

On Friday my mom spent most of the day with my aunt Juliana who lives about a half hour from here. David's cousin was going through the temple for the first time in Salt Lake so we made our trek up there and barely made it by the time we found a parking spot. It is madness in the city! It of course was a good experience being in the temple with a lot of David's family but it was even cooler having experienced a live session! I didn't know that was a thing. But it was neat.

I was a little disappointed by the guy we asked to take our picture. He totally cut off Moroni on the close up!!? Luckily, he got one far out too so I guess I'll have to deal.

It's just beautiful though isn't it?

Following the temple, we got a quick bite to eat and then headed to another one of David's cousins' wedding bash.  She wasn't getting married for another couple weeks or so but I guess they have so much family here in Utah that wouldn't have been able to attend the wedding so they wanted to have a little luncheon type thing for them (and us of course Ü).  It was fun! I met alot of David's cousins and family that I hadn't met before. His sister Caitlin and her family from Idaho came down for it as well so it was nice getting to spend a little time with them as well. She has the cutest girls ever that just sit and behave perfectly. Even when I am trimming their hair! They say the cutest things and I love that they call me Aunt Cassie. My others nieces and nephews are just learning to talk and my name so they aren't to the "aunt" part quite yet.

A lot of the time spent together while mom was here (mostly while David worked) was sew! I've had a sewing machine for lots of years now but I've never really used it or really known how. So, my mom and I went to the craft store, picked out some flannel fabric and came home and made some burp cloths and blankets for the Little Mister! It was so fun and exciting. Granted they're just square blankets that I hemmed. And all I really did was sew a straight line, but I'm so glad that I did. At least I feel comfortable doing that now. This baby is going to be the best wrapped and best burped baby in all the land! Mom picked out a fabric that says "I love grandma!" We didn't even get the one that says "I love Mommy and Daddy!"

"It's more important," she said. So there we go.

See that? I even rounded the corners!

Now I just need to be confident and make something else. Probably the hardest part for me in actually buckling down and sewing something is picking out the material though! Theres sooo many cute things out there, who knew?

It was a jam packed weekend but it was AWESOME.

Happy birthday to me!

Well to start off, hello! I can not believe I'm doing this. I never thought my life was exciting enough to blog about (and who knows, maybe it really isn't) but I'm doing this anyway, if for nothing else, to give me something to do.

I guess I'll give a little background. My husband David and I just celebrated our first anniversary.  A WHOLE YEAR!? Also can't believe that. I am currently about 7 months pregnant so October can't come soon enough. Both of us are native to Arizona, the hottest place in the world, but we recently moved up to Utah to pursue my husbands schooling in business. So this temple in our picture is the Gila Valley Temple in Arizona. Beautiful right? Now Provo. We love it here, minus the fact that we are away from most of our family and old friends.

Back to my anniversary. Naturally, we went to Thanksgiving Point where there's a Museum of Ancient History... It was my idea because being super pregnant there's really not a whole lot of fun, thrilling things to do without spending oodles of money. And for some reason I was really intrigued by the thought of seeing the dinosaurs.  Maybe because we've been watching Friends alot and I just really wanted to see what Ross' life was all about.  Anyway, it was cool and interesting but not sure it was worth the $15 a person we paid. The best part was obviously the ginormous dinosaurs that ate my husband.

After that awesome hour, we headed to the temple. We decided it would be a good tradition to keep up on our anniversary to do sealings. Kinda fits the day in my opinion. Another thing we'll try to do is obviously take a picture, and as you can see we accomplished that task.

And each year (depending on if we still live in Utah - the land of temples) we'll go to a different one. We'll have a collage of temples and tons of positive experiences. Cool right? Well we'll see.

A little later we went to a nice dinner at a little Italian restaurant around the corner from our apartment. It was delicious! There was an accordion player who sang to us and gave us free dessert. And to wrap up the night, we went to my friends wedding reception and reminisced with other friends all night. I didn't even say hello or congrats or anything to the groom we went to see... Whoops. But they won't remember that right?? It was good catching up with our college friends though. It was nice to have people who I already have inside jokes with and such. That's been a hard thing to adjust to having just moved from out of state. Everyone thought it was so hilarious that we spent our anniversary night with our friends. Well what were we supposed to do???

Fast forward a week. So my birthday is actually next weekend but I got surprised a little early. This morning when David came in to our room to tell my still 99% asleep self that he was home from the gym, he actually said "I have a surprise for you outside so hurry, get dressed and come see!" I of course wanted to just roll over and say I'd see it later but he persisted. He even helped me find shorts and other appropriate clothes to wear outside. As I'm stumbling through the room and then the hall I'm thinking that maybe he got me my anniversary present today! (He's busy with work and when he's not, I'm with him so he doesn't have a whole lot of time to do things like that.) I hoped it was a puppy or something wonderful. Well, half way through the living room he spun me around to look into the kitchen where I found MY MOM!!!! Of course I cried. Did you really almost ask?? I've been feeling pretty lonely and discouraged with the big move and not having any friends or people to hang out with while David has his friends and jobs and things to do. My mom and I frequent Skype and phone calls because I just need to talk sometimes. Who doesn't just want to talk to their moms everyday? This was perfect. David and my mom. Those little boogers are too good at surprising me! But it was the best thing for sure. Happy birthday to me!
